What are hydrosols?

Hydrosols noun hy·dro·sol | \ ˈhī-drə-ˌsäl , -ˌsȯl \

Definition of hydrosol

Hydrosols, also known as "flower waters," are produced by distilling fresh leaves, fruits, flowers, and other plant materials. With similar properties to essential oils, these aromatic waters are much less concentrated. Their aromas are often soft and subtle when compared to their essential oil counterpart. These aromatic products usually have a scent similar to their essential oil, but also can have a greener note. This comes from the water soluble constituents in the plant material that are not present in the essential oil.

How are Hydrosols made?

Most hydrosols are made by steam distillation. In steam distillation, plant material rich in botanical extracts (leaves, buds, etc.) is placed into a steam distillery. The steam mixes with the botanicals, forming a hot herbal distillate that then rises to the top of the distillery.

Hydrosol for sensitive skin types

People with sensitive skin deal with some amount of redness. This can take the form of a red rash, red bumps, blushing and flushing, or even red dilated blood vessels. Usually, the redness will go away after removing the irritant or with minor treatment. Dry skin and sensitive skin can go hand-in-hand.
