Argan oil is made from kernels from the Argan tree native to Morocco. The oily fruit is used by locals to nourish and moisturize dry skin and hair. Argan oil has a high content of antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamin E, making it a great way to moisturize the skin and protect it from the sun. Since Argan oil is relatively light, it can be used on most skin types and across the board when it comes to hair textures.
4 Results from using Argan Oil
-
Decrease in dandruff! Argan oil can soothe your scalp by relieving dandruff-inducing oxidative stress, an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body.
-
Longer hair! Because of the phenols found in argan oil, which are very stimulating to the scalp, it may promote new hair growth. Simply massage the oil into your scalp for several minutes a day to stimulate blood flow and open the pores.
-
Your hair color lasting longer! The antioxidants found in argan oil may benefit your hair color from free radicals that can alter the color over time. Massage a few drops between your palms, then run your hands through the length of your hair to get the benefits without leaving hair looking greasy.
-
Reduction in split ends and frizz! Argan oil imparts shine and smoothness to hair and tames frizz. If there is still a bit of frizz, take a drop and rub well into hands, then work into dry hair, starting and focusing at the ends. The vitamin E in the oil helps smooth frayed hair shafts and seal split ends while the omega fatty acids work to strengthen your hair
Ways to use argan oil
Depending on what you’re trying to achieve, there are a few different ways you can work argan oil into your hair care routine:
Argan oil for nourishing your scalp: To take advantage of its scalp benefits, apply a few drops to your hands and massaging it into your roots. We recommend applying it at night and sleeping with the oil in your hair/on the scalp and then rinsing it out with cool water in the morning.
Argan oil for hair growth: On consistent usage argan oil reduces and prevents hair loss. It helps increase the production of keratin, stimulating hair growth. It also helps extend the life of hair follicles.
Argan oil for styling: As a styling tool, argan oil works as a heat protectant when you apply it before using a blow dryer or hot tool, or as a way to tame frizz or flyaways once hair is already dry. Rub two to three drops into your hands and comb through strands with your fingers.
Argan oil for protecting: Vitamin E helps to increase hair's elasticity, making it less prone to breakage. Additionally, the oil is a powerful antioxidant, protecting the hair against UV and free radical damage.

How to spot a good quality product
Looking at color, scent, and potency will help you identify real versus fake.
-
Color: Authentic argan oil should be a golden yellow hue. If it's too pale, it's likely that it's either been mixed with other oils or has been filtered (which won't do much for your hair). Its texture should also be smooth, not watery.
-
Scent: While hand-pressed argan oil will have some differentiators when it comes to smell, pure argan oil will almost always have a nutty scent. Also, argan oil should never not have an aroma—if this is the case, it may be the case that it's been deodorized (and thus, stripped of all of its nourishing benefits).
-
Potency: To reap the full benefits, use argan oil in its purest form (meaning, the product is labeled as being a 100% argan oil). When it comes to using the oil in shampoos, conditioners, and other hairstyling products, you'll know if argan is the star if it's listed as one of the first ingredients on the label.
