Hyaluronic acid can be naturally found in the human body. This amazing humectant is becoming more and more popular due to its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. Our skin loses its ability to maintain moisture as we age, therefore hyaluronic acid helps combat dryness and has an instant plumping effect, filling in fine lines.

So, now that we know that hyaluronic acid is the key to instantly plumping fine lines and making skin look glowy. We want to give you the scoop on hyaluronic acid, including the right way to incorporate it into your skincare routine.

What is HA?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a sugar compound found naturally in our skin, but mostly within the deeper layers of the dermis. The HA within our bodies holds a thousand times its weight in water to not only retain all that moisture in our skin and joints but also prevent all that moisture from evaporating into the air.

Just like collagen and elastin, the amount of naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid in our bodies decreases as we get older. There are, however, ways to help stimulate the production of HA in our bodies. Diet is one of the biggest factors in affecting the skin, eating fruits and veggies with lots of antioxidants protect the skin from inflammation, in turn, helps the skin retain it.

WHAT are HUMECTANTs?

Without getting too technical, a humectant’s key functionality is to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules; this is why humectants are considered an important ingredient if you have dry or dehydrated skin.

We like to add humectants to our formulas because of their ability to attract water like a magnet; physically binding water to them. It locks moisture onto the surface of the skin, keeping it moist and healthy. Hyaluronic acid is so powerful at pulling moisture to the surface of your skin, you likely don't need to use it in more than one product in your routine.

Pre-Order Starts March 1st, 2021 - Hyaluronic Acid Gel Serum

Hyaluronic Acid TonerBetty Johnson (founder) formulated the Hyaluronic Acid Gel Serum & Hyaluronic Acid Toner to combat dryness and to slow down the skins aging. "I love that it’s lightweight, and oil-free, so good for my acne-prone customers," she says. "It also includes green tea, an antioxidant that works to improve skin aging, licorice root extract, a rich source of antioxidants, it also offers skin lightening and anti-aging benefits, and hyaluronic acid to help maintain skins hydration."

Why is skin hydration so important?

Water is essential to allow the skin to normally function. The skin’s intercellular communication system regulates the amount of water it loses via trans-epidermal water loss; a function that can only work correctly if your skin’s barrier function isn’t damaged.

WHAT CAUSES the skin barrier to break

Your skin barrier can weaken as a result of aging and genetics as well as external contributors, like over-cleansing with acidic cleansers and UV exposure. Skin with an impaired moisture barrier has an increased rate of trans-epidermal water loss, resulting in rough, dry, and flaky skin, which becomes prone to inflammation, irritation, premature aging, and skin conditions like; eczema.

Ingredient Breakdown

  • Organic Rosa damascena (rose) hydrosol - Rose water acts as an inhibitor against elastase and collagenase, which are both harmful to the skin. This, in turn, can help soothe the skin and reduce redness, as well as act as an anti-aging product by reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice - Hydrating aloe vera juice may help reduce the frequency and appearance of acne. Aloe vera is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins that may help protect your skin

  • Organic Salix Alba (Willow) bark extract - Derived from the bark of the willow tree, Willow Bark Extract has been used for centuries to soothe irritated skin. Containing salicin—from which salicylic acid is derived—this versatile ingredient is both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, clearing pores and alleviating acne and irritation.

  • Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract - Green tea extract is included to provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, which may help to soothe and calm the skin while also providing protection against collagen degradation and skin discoloration.

  • Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract - Licorice root extract contains glycyrrhizin, which is a very potent antioxidant. When used topically, the antioxidants protect your skin against damage from the sun's UV rays and free radicals. This, in turn, prevents premature aging.

  • Organic Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil - Contains numerous active components such as phytosterol, azulene, and bisabolol. It has healing, anti-inflammatory, regenerating properties. It is also rich in Vitamin B-Complex. This makes Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extracts very useful as a soothing and calming ingredient as well.

  • Hyaluronic Acid Powder - Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles retaining moisture to the skin, creating a plumping effect. When the skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell production can take place, as the skin isn't busy fighting for hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin cells.

  • Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside - A solubilizing agent, plant-derived, biodegradable, and gentle on skin.

  • Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate - Sodium cocoyl glutamate protects the skin from drying and retains the moisture content. Sodium cocoyl glutamate is a mild vegetable-based surfactant (foaming ingredient) derived from coconut or palm kernel oil and glucose from corn.

  • Glyceryl Caprylate - is a co-emulsifier that is mainly used to stabilize O/W-emulsions (oil-in-water-emulsions) and is produced from various vegetable oils. Glyceryl Caprylate also restores the oils of the skin, regulates the skin moisture, and acts as a humidifier to the skin.

  • Polyglyceryl-6 Oleate - Hydrophilic emulsifier, is a Palm Free 100% natural emulsifier produced from Sunflower Seed Oil and Vegetable Glycerine.

  • Sodium Surfactin - is a peptide lipid composed of amino acids and fatty acids and is produced by the fermentation of Bacillus subtilis.

  • Sodium Phytate - is the sodium salt of phytic acid. It is generally used to help stabilize products, but in larger concentrations can provide a skin-lightening effect. It can also help moisturize, improve skin elasticity, and balance oily skin.

  • Tocopherol - is known as an antioxidant superhero that provides awesome protection for your skin when included in body care products. Studies show tocopherol: Absorbs UV rays and helps prevent UV-induced free radical damage to the skin.
