Worry free Skincare

Worry Free Skin Care

SanBe Beauty products are simple, clean, and worry free. This means you can rest easy using our stuff. It's clean. It's safe. It's your friend.

Why?

One of our core values at SanBe Beauty is that we make products that won’t irritate your skin. And a lot of these ingredients can cause a lot of skin irritations.

That’s all, not much to it. We’re not trying to be super purity heroes, we simply believe in using ingredients that will be beneficial to the skin, not irritate it.

Here's what we leave out, and why:

PARABENS

Parabens are an inexpensive and common type of preservative used in many different skincare products to keep the product fresh. They also prevent the product from harbouring harmful bacteria. In 2004 a study revealed parabens were a contributing factor to breast cancer and they’ve had a terrible rep ever since. It’s now been shown that there’s no conclusive evidence to suggest using products with parabens is directly linked to the development of cancer. If you are sensitive, easily-irritated and allergy-prone then you may react to parabens, but we’re sensitive-skin friendly, so we kept ‘em out.

Look out for: Methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben and isobutylparaben, names that end with ‘-paraben’.

sulfateS (SLS/SLES)

SLS | SLES are used in skincare and haircare products. They are known to be skin and eye irritants. SLS can cause dry and flaking skin, allergies and redness. It is a harsh detergent that removes the natural oils from your skin when used. Some of the consequences are dermatitis, dandruff and other skin issues. Especially for people with sensitive skin, the effects of SLS can be detrimental so you won’t find them in any SanBe Beauty products.

Look out for: SLS, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Sodium dodecyl sulfate

Petrolatum & Mineral Oil . . .

Petrolatum-based products are fast-acting, giving quick but temporary results. This ingredient gives the temporary illusion that the skin is soft and hydrated. Instead, it creates a barrier that retains moisture. At the same time, it also prevents absorption of external moisture. This causes the skin to suffocate and eventually dry out, which makes them a no for us.

Look out for: Mineral oil, Paraffin wax, Benzene, names that end with ‘-eth’.

Coal tar . . .

The main compounds making up crude coal tar are 48% hydrocarbons, 42% carbon and 10% water. In its natural form coal tar is a thick, light black, viscous liquid with a characteristic smell. Coal tar is also an extremely heavy substance and weighs down the skin. This causes skin irritation, resulting in acne and allergic breakouts. Studies have shown that coal tar is a carcinogen which is a BIG no no for us.

Look out for: FD&C or D&C, chemical colours ( BLUE 1, GREEN 3, etc.)

Phthalates . . .

This ingredient makes cosmetics flexible and less prone to breaking. Also called a plasticiser, many skincare products and cosmetics contain phthalates to keep them soft and pliable. Phthalates may disrupt hormones, especially in men and children. It could also possibly cause adverse effects on the reproductive system. It has an association with many health issues, such as diabetes, ADHD and even cancer so we won’t allow this chemical in any of our formulations.

Look out for: Phthalate, DEP, DBP, DEHP, fragrance This ingredient makes cosmetics flexible and less prone to breaking. Also called a plasticiser, many skincare products and cosmetics contain phthalates to keep them soft and pliable.

synthetic Fragrances . . .

The fragrance does not just refer to perfumes; any product that smells good would most likely have fragrance added to it, and chances are, it’s all chemicals. The scent makes for an attractive product, especially for skincare since they are applied to the face. Often, manufacturers add artificial fragrances to mask unpleasant smells due to the mixture of different ingredients. While this sounds harmless, most fragrances are chemicals and may have toxic effects on the body. The ingredients of most scents include petroleum- or coal-derived chemicals. These are known skin and nose irritants. Fragrances can also be dangerous for people with respiratory issues. It might cause an allergic reaction when used therefore none of SanBe products are made with synthetic fragrances.

Look out for: Fragrance, perfume, parfum, aroma.

Silicones . . .

Silicones are slippery, synthetic polymers that make cosmetics feel and look nice on the skin. They’re useful in primers and foundations, because they give a silky, smooth finish to the skin and fill in lines. But for skin care? Nah. Not for us. Synthetic fillers create a film on the skin that can clog pores and cause dehydration. And being a ‘barrier’ they can prevent further moisture getting into the skin and slow down the natural skin cell renewal process. In short: They’re not great. Especially if you’re prone to breakouts or inflamed skin.

Look out for: Nylon, bis-PEG-18 methyl ether dimethyl silane, cyclohexasiloxane, cyclopentasiloxane, names that end with ‘-cone’.

PEG (polyethylene glycols) . . .

PEGs compounds are widely used in cosmetics as thickeners and softeners. It also functions as absorption enhancer which allows both good and bad ingredients to be absorbed faster into deeper parts of skin. If used on broken or damaged skin, it can cause irritation and system toxicity.

Look out for: They often appear notated as PEG followed by a number (ex: PEG-40).

Synthetic Colours . . .

Synthetic colours make products look nice, but they are purely aesthetic. They can be a cause skin of sensitivity and irritation and have zero skin care benefit, so they’ve got no place in our line-up.

Look out for: They often appear notated as Colour (ex: FD&C Green S (Green) (E142)).

GMO . . .

These are genetically modified organisms. The World Health Organisation describes GMOs as “organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in such a way that does not occur naturally". The problem with cosmetics with GMOs, is that we don’t have enough long term studies to know how/if they will affect our health. Therefore, we only use what we know and stay away from GMOs.

Look out for: These ingredients could be GMOs unless otherwise stated on the packaging.
