Why Do Dark Under-Eye Circles Appear?
The skin under your eyes is some of the thinnest on your face. This turmeric dark circles mask is something I have been making since before Sanbe was even a brand. And I still use it.
As we get older, that area can start to look darker, more hollow, or more tired. Sun exposure makes it more visible over time. So does lack of sleep and genetics.
There is no mask that will make dark circles disappear. I want to be honest about that. But consistent care can help the skin in that area look smoother, more even, and less tired.
Why Turmeric?
Turmeric has been used in skincare for centuries, especially across Asia and South Asia. The active compound is curcumin, which gives turmeric its deep yellow color.
When applied to skin, turmeric can help the area around the eyes look less puffy and more even. It helps the skin look calmer and more rested. That is what we are going for here.
One thing to know: turmeric stains. Your hands, your sink, your towels. I will show you how to deal with that below.
What Is In This Mask
Kaolin Clay The gentlest of all clays. It does not strip the skin. It is safe for dry, sensitive, and mature skin. It helps the skin look smoother and more refined after use.
Rosewater Helps the mask blend to a paste and feels soothing on application. Leaves skin looking refreshed.
Lemon Juice A small amount only. Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Helps the skin look brighter and more even.
Tea Tree Essential Oil (Optional) A few drops if you want it. Helps the skin around the eye area look calmer. Skip it if your skin is sensitive.
Turmeric & Clay Mask Recipe Ingredients:
What You Need
- 3 tsp kaolin clay
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp rosewater
- 2 to 3 drops tea tree essential oil (optional)
- A non-metal bowl and non-metal spoon
- Coconut oil + makeup remover pads/face cloth (for cleansing after the face mask)
How To Make It
Mix the kaolin clay and turmeric together first. Add the rosewater and lemon juice slowly and stir until you get a smooth paste. Add tea tree if using. The consistency should be thick enough to stay on but easy to spread.
How To Use It
Apply gently under the eye area or across the full face. Leave on for 10 minutes. Remove with a soft, warm, damp cloth using gentle circular motions.
Removing the Yellow Stain
Good to know: Turmeric will stain your skin temporarily. To remove it, apply a small amount of coconut oil or an oil-based cleanser to the skin and massage gently. The oil lifts the yellow pigment. Then rinse with warm water.
Do not skip this step or you will walk around looking like you used a highlighter under your eyes.
Want Something You Can Use Every Day?
This turmeric dark circles mask is great a few times a week. But if you want daily support for the eye area and the rest of your face, our Anti Aging Turmeric Cream or our Under Eye Cream does the same work without the mixing.
Want to skip the mixing? Our Radiance Mask - Matcha and Turmeric Clay Mask has turmeric built in along with a few ingredients worth knowing about.
French green clay draws out impurities and leaves skin looking more refined. Organic matcha helps skin look calmer and more even. Organic rosehip leaves the skin looking smoother and more rested. Organic coconut milk powder softens the feel of the mask and makes it gentle enough for sensitive skin.
Use it alongside the Anti Aging Turmeric Cream and Under eye cream for daily support. Mask on weekends. Cream every morning and night.
