Let’s be honest, keeping your hair healthy and looking great can be a challenge. After all, there are so many different things that can impact the health of your hair on a day-to-day basis. From a busy schedule to the unpredictable weather forecast, it’s easy for even the best haircare routine to fall by the wayside from time to time. And while you may think this will take lots of money and time, that doesn’t have to be the case. With the right hair care routine in place, you can keep your locks looking healthy and nourished with minimal effort. It's time to reconsider your daily hair routine and the loads of products that promise the perfect hair day. Keep reading for our top tips on how to get naturally beautiful healthy hair...

How Often Should I Wash My Hair?

The number one thing to take into consideration when creating a hair care routine is how often you should wash your hair. The truth is, washing your locks every day (or even every other day) with normal shampoo can strip your hair of natural oils that keep it healthy and shiny. Start by washing your hair only when necessary. When your hair gets too oily it's time to go in with shampoo and wash away that excess buildup. It's important to note that this may take some time for your hair to adjust to your new routine. At first you may notice that you can only get away with not washing every other day; but as your hair adjusts you will be able to have longer spurts between wash days. Try to make it a goal to keep 2-3 days in between washes. This will help keep it looking healthy and shiny without stripping it of its natural oils.

When you wash your hair you'll want to use about a quarter size dollop; give or take depending on the length of your hair. Make sure not to aggravate your scalp by using your nails and scrubbing your head excessively. Instead, massage your scalp with the tips of your fingers to distribute the product evenly. Once the scalp is fully covered in product, rinse out your shampoo brushing your fingers through your hair so that the product reaches the ends. You do not need to apply the shampoo directly to the bottom of your hair because it takes longer for oils to reach the tips. By applying shampoo only to your scalp you are protecting the natural oils throughout your hair and decreasing the likelihood of split ends.

Shampoos and Conditioners

When it comes to your hair there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. First, you'll want to invest in shampoos and conditioners that don't use harsh chemicals that will do more damage than good. The skin on your scalp is very absorbent, so it's crucial that we pay attention to what is put on top. It only takes a little research to uncover the harsh reality of what is being put into our hair products. You may have heard of a few of these ingredients that you generally want to stay away from: sulfates, alcohol, parabens, & phthalates. These common hair product ingredients will damage and dry your hair out. If you are interested in learning more, we highly recommend the HBO documentary "Not So Pretty".

Use a shampoo and conditioner that goes back to the basics. Look for organic hair products that will keep your hair nourished and strong. This is the best way to keep away frizz, dullness and breakage.

One of our customer favorites is our Organic Shampoo Bars. Also know as our "Mountain Man" soap, this bar can be used for shampoo and for the body. Talk about an all-in-one!!! Our lightweight shampoo/body soap is made with organic babassu, avocado, and coconut oil, along with shea butter and castor oil to give the bar a cleansing, conditioning, bubbly, and creamy property. It will leave your hair clean, soft, conditioned, and shiny.

Another soap that we have is our Tea Tree & Rosemary Organic Clay Shampoo Bar. This pure Organic soap is made with the finest natural ingredients and totally free from detergents, SLS, alcohol, parabens, sorbates, silicones, and sulfates. The rhassoul clay that it contains has natural minerals that act as natural detoxifying, nourishing and conditioning elements. Another great element of the class is its ability to fit all different hair types.

Let's talk conditioners... Same rule of thumb applies to picking out a conditioner as picking out your shampoos. Skip the harmful chemicals and go for organic hair products! However there is a difference in how you should apply your conditioner AND how often you use it. Rule #1 don't skip nourishing your hair with conditioner. You want your hair to lock in as much moisture to avoid the frizziness that comes with dried out hair. Rule #2, when applying your conditioner, only apply from 1/2 or 3/4 of the way down. You want to avoid clogging the pores on your scalp with conditioner. Oil starts from the base of your head and travels down to the end of your hair. Conditioner on the scalp will cause the oil to clog and build up, weighing down your hair.

Here at Sanbe, we are excited to announce that we'll be releasing a NEW Conditioner Soap Bar. As with all our lines, this soap will be vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and made with organic high-quality, natural ingredients. Stay on the lookout for this new product on our social media pages or email newsletters.

Keeping Your Hair Protected & Nourished

Are you someone who battles dry, frizzy or dull hair? If so, you won't want want to skip this step in your hair care routine. After shampoo and conditioner you can add a boost of moisture in your hair by applying an oil. Once or twice a week oil can protect your hair from breakage, prevent hair loss, softens, and boost shine. The best time to apply is when your hair is clean and damp, right before blow drying.

Sanbe's Organic Argan Hair Serum can moisturize your hair and scalp and protect your hair from everyday damage. By reducing breakage and split ends and keeping your scalp healthy, argan oil may help prevent hair loss for thicker, fuller hair.

Argan oil is also rich in vitamin E, which provides a fatty layer to your hair and scalp that may help prevent dryness and can help reduce frizziness and boost shine. The medium-chain fatty acids in Argan oil have a protective effect that can help prevent damage from washing and styling.

This hair serum also has a blend of Eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oil can relieve a dry and itchy scalp due to conditions like dandruff or dermatitis and even preventing head lice. Eucalyptus oil helps regulate oil production and bacteria associated with an oily scalp. In this way, eucalyptus oil can help balance the scalp's oil production and lead to less oily roots down the road.

What Is the Correct Way to Dry Your Hair?

You may be wondering, which is better? Blow drying or air drying your locks? If you’re considering blow drying your hair on a daily basis you need to be aware of how much heat you're using! Hair dryers can make your hair brittle and prone to breakage and split ends. It’s best to minimize the heat you use on a hair dryer because it can really have an impact on the condition of your hair over time.

If you are a person that opts for the air drying method, you are not out of the woods just yet. First off, if you are air drying your hair you'll need ample time to dry your hair before your head hits the pillow OR before you step outside to face the harsh elements beyond the front door. The integrity of your hair is very fragile while it is wet. The damage that occurs when your hair comes into contact with an abrasive object (like your pillow) is one of the worse things for your hair.

When drying your hair it's a good idea to use a microfiber towel. This will wick away moisture from your hair but not be too rough like a normal cotton towel. Also, if you have been looking for a reason to buy new bedding for bedroom start with silk pillow cases! These are the best thing for your hair at night. It keeps your hair from tangles, friz, breakage, and dryness. Both a microfiber towel and silk pillow cases are game changers in how your hair locks in moisture.
