We live in such a busy time it almost seems as if taking care of our mind and body is a thing of the past.
With this blog post about Best Practices to Implement a Mindful Skincare Routine, we like to bring awareness of how important it is to be & act mindfully.
Because let's be real, we all deserve some pampering.
Before we get into why Sanbe Beauty advocates mindful skincare practices, you have to understand what mindfulness means.
There are many ways to define mindfulness but this one really sums it up:
mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
Mindfulness is a quality that every human being already possesses, it’s not something you have to conjure up, you just have to learn how to access it.
Being mindful starts with slowing down. This is hard for us because we live in a fast-paced culture where everything happens seemingly instantaneously. Slowing down is counter-cultural.
Before we apply mindfulness to our skincare regimen, maybe we need to develop some everyday mindfulness habits. Here are some simple ways you can work on cultivating mindfulness:
1. Sit in the morning: Why the morning? The day is just beginning, it is nice and quiet, and you may have a few moments to yourself. Instead of getting out of bed and rushing through a morning routine, sit for a few minutes. Think about being thankful for the day and just let yourself be in the present moment.
2. Eat mindfully: Life is busy and eating has become something done in passing. Try slowing down, making food yourself, and eating purposefully. Choose foods with a variety of different colors, textures, and flavors. Take the time to really chew and appreciate each bite. (Doing so is better for your digestion anyway!)
3. Spend time outside. Take a walk around your neighborhood. Observe what you see on your walk, how the weather feels, what you hear, and what you smell.

If you aren't in the habit of being mindful of your skincare process, pick one step to focus on this week. Next week, add another step. There's no need to overwhelm yourself, especially if this is all new. That would defeat the purpose.
